Holster Retention Levels And What They Mean
Retention levels are determined by the number of steps needed in order to unholster a weapon. If all you have to do in order to remove the weapon from the holster is lift it at a certain angle, then it's classified as a Level 1. If you have to remove a hood or press a thumb break AND then lift the weapon, it's a Level 2 retention system. In our case, the Level 2 retention on our STRATUS™ GEN 2 holster adds a thumb break that must be pressed in order to unholster your weapon.
The Level 2 retention system is perfect for the more serious rifleman out there. As military personnel or police officers know, sometimes the perpetrator will get bold and want to reach for your weapon, so having that extra level of retention is a must.
On the other hand, if you are in an environment where being able to deploy your weapon as fast as possible is your priority, then a Level 1 retention system may be exactly what you need. Airsoft enthusiasts particularly may find this quick-deploy system extremely helpful in their fast-paced shooting environment.
